DESCRIPTION:Watch the film on your own then join us for rounds of small group discussion and a special guest Q&A! \nVirtual Documentary Night is a monthly online event hosted by Community Documentary Night. It is designed to give people the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on a wide range of topics with people from various backgrounds. This event is in collaboration with Densho\, Japanese American Memorial Pilgrimages (JAMP) and Asian American Voices for Education (AAVEd). Densho is a nonprofit organization based in Seattle\, Washington whose mission is to preserve and share history of the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans to promote equity and justice today. JAMP is a nonprofit organization based in Santa Cruz\, California who is dedicated to honoring the shared history while building bridges to our collective future through digital storytelling\, educational content\, and community connection that amplifies Nikkei voices across generations. AAVEd is a Georgia based nonprofit made up of a grassroots group of parents\, community members and educators committed to advocating for comprehensive US history to be taught in Georgia K-12 schools. \nFor this Special Virtual Documentary Night\, in honor of Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month\, we are meeting to talk about the documentary\, Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066. Alternative Facts tells the untold story of false information and political influences which led to the World War ll incarceration of Japanese Americans.
